Abstract

The Kalitengah Jaya Reduce-Reuse-Recycle (3R) Temporary Disposal Site (TPS) in Kalitengah Village, Tanggulangin District, Sidoarjo Regency, started operating since 2023. This 3R TPS was presented as part of solution from the Sidoarjo Government’s to manage community waste generation using a waste management approach at a communal  or regional scale, which involving the active role of government, and community, through a community empowerment approach. The 3R TPS  Kalitengah Jaya is equipped with a 33 Kw electric waste sorting conveyor which is operated by 5 daily worker officers. This 3R TPS also received assistance in the form of incenerator equipment with processing capacity of  20 Kg waste/30 minutes as part of PT. Pertamina Gas Community Development Program-East Java Operation Area. Based on field observations and discussions conducted with the Head of KSM 3R TPS Kalitengah Jaya, Mr. Rofiq is known that there are several obstacles in operating this 3R TPS ideally, including related to the efforts that have been conducted before to process organic waste into compost, there are difficulties in marketing the resulting compost products, waste that has not been sorted from the source of waste (residents) due to constraints on the land availability, and another constraint is that processing capacity of the incenerator  does not  match the needs, so that in the end the waste burning process is carried out manually.
